Privacy Policy

Operator: Two Ls LLC ("Two Ls," "we," "us," "our"), a Minnesota limited liability company, 910 Emerson Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Contact:hello@playeverwhen.com.

This Privacy Policy explains how Two Ls LLC collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use Everwhen (the "Game"), available at https://playeverwhen.com. By using the Game, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Game.

1. A quick note about how Everwhen works

Everwhen lets you send text messages to AI-generated, fictional representations of people and moments in history. The things you type are sent to Anthropic — the maker of the Claude AI models — to generate responses (in some cases, to OpenAI), and to content-moderation services so we can keep the Game safe. Please keep this in mind throughout: do not send personal, sensitive, or confidential information in your in-game messages. See Section 4.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide:

  • Account information — when you sign in, you use a third-party provider (currently Google or Discord), and we receive your email address, a sign-in identifier, and basic profile details (such as a name or avatar) from that provider. We never receive or store a password. If you play without signing in, your progress is tied to an anonymous account and a device identifier.
  • Gameplay content — the messages, prompts, and other text you submit while playing, and the in-game choices you make.
  • Communications — information you send us (support requests, feedback, survey responses).
  • Payment information — when you buy run packs, our payment processor, Stripe, collects and processes your payment details. We do not store full payment card numbers.

Information collected automatically:

  • Device and usage data — IP address, browser/device type, operating system, the pages you request, referring URLs, and similar diagnostic data from standard server logs.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — see Section 6.

We do not intentionally collect special-category or highly sensitive personal information, and we ask that you not submit it (see Section 4).

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • operate, provide, and maintain the Game, including generating AI responses and gameplay;
  • moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service, and keep the Game and our users safe;
  • process transactions and provide customer support;
  • understand how the Game is used and improve it;
  • communicate with you about updates, security notices, and (with your consent where required) marketing;
  • detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security, or technical issues; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.

We do not use the content of your in-game messages to train AI models.

4. AI processing and your inputs

Everwhen uses Anthropic (the maker of the Claude AI models) to generate responses (and may use OpenAI models for the same purpose), plus a two-layer content-moderation stack to screen content.

  • Your inputs are transmitted to Anthropic. When you send an in-game message or prompt, that text (and necessary context) is sent to Anthropic's systems to generate a response; if we route generation to OpenAI, it is sent to OpenAI's systems instead. Each provider's handling of that data is governed by its own terms and policies — see Anthropic's Usage Policy. Because we access Claude through Anthropic's commercial API, Anthropic does not use your inputs or the generated outputs to train its models by default.
  • Your content is screened for safety. To enforce our rules and protect users, the messages you send and the core responses the Game generates each turn are checked by automated moderation — OpenAI's moderation endpoint (a fast first-pass classifier) and an additional Anthropic model that performs a more holistic review. This means content is also transmitted to OpenAI for that check; OpenAI processes it under its own policies. Derived narration composed from already-screened turns (such as the run's chronicle) is not separately screened.
  • Outputs are AI-generated and fictional. Responses are produced by a language model. They may be inaccurate, offensive, or entirely invented, and they are not statements of historical fact or real communications from any real person. See the Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.
  • Do not submit sensitive information. Please do not include personal data about yourself or others (real names, contact details, financial or health information, credentials, etc.) in your in-game messages.
  • Storage and review. We and/or our providers may store conversation content and may review it (including via automated tools and, where necessary, human review) to operate the Game, enforce our rules, and improve safety and quality.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising services. We share information only as follows:

  • Service providers — companies that help us run the Game: Anthropic (generates the AI responses and provides one layer of content moderation), OpenAI (the moderation-endpoint screening layer; may also generate responses), Supabase (database and authentication), DigitalOcean (cloud hosting), Stripe (payment processing), and email/communications providers when we correspond with you — each acting on our behalf and bound by appropriate obligations.
  • Sharing you choose — if you share a run, anyone with the link can view that run's content.
  • Legal and safety — when we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or government requests; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Two Ls, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • With your consent — for any other purpose disclosed to you with your permission.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use only essential cookies and similar technologies: they keep you signed in, remember your device so anonymous progress and free-run limits work, credit referrals, and remember preferences (like theme and sound settings, kept in your browser's local storage). We do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but blocking essential cookies may break sign-in or gameplay.

7. Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here — for example, for the life of your account, and afterward as needed to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We may retain de-identified or aggregated data indefinitely.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any right, contact us at hello@playeverwhen.com. We will respond as required by applicable law. Any marketing email we send will include an unsubscribe link.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you are in the EU or UK: we process personal information to perform our contract with you (running the Game), for our legitimate interests (such as safety, security, and improving the Game), and with your consent where required; you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

10. Children's privacy

The Game is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us information, contact us at hello@playeverwhen.com and we will delete it.

11. International users

We operate from the United States, and your information will be processed in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than where you live. Where local law requires protections for international transfers, we rely on our providers' safeguards and contractual commitments.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where required.
